Summer has definitely passed us by; the temperatures are cooler, the days are shorter and school is in full swing. Autumn is my favorite time of the year. The days are sunny, pleasant and mild-not too hot and not too cold. Exceptions are rainy days, of course! The best part of autumn is the changing leaf color-absolutely stunning! I love the red and gold leaves mixed in with the green and yellow; Mother Nature can’t be beat when it comes to painting the landscape. Taking a walk in the woods can be so relaxing and calming. There is a different smell in the air and one whiff tells you what time of year it is-no need to look at a calendar.

Now, with the onset of autumn I get the urge to bake. Cinnamon buns, pumpkin pie, apple pie, streudel, cookies-you get the idea! Unfortunately I do not need to eat all the goodies I make. One way to get the scent of baked goods in the house is to burn candles or use reed diffusers or incense. You can also use scented bath and body products and fragrance oils in oil warmers. Fragrances like Apple Cider, Apple Crisp, Apple Cobbler, Cinnamon Bun, Frosted Pumpkin, Grandma’s Kitchen, Hot Apple Pie and Pumpkin Brulee place the wonderful scents of fall baking in the home but without the fuss of preparing these goodies and without any of the calories. Sometimes just inhaling these scents is enough to satisfy the baking urge; it is like having the baked goods sitting on the counter. Somehow your brain registers these aromas and you feel "satisfied" and comforted. Of course there are those times when this is not enough and I simply must bake and eat a pie or some buns!

If you are not one of those people who likes to bake or simply does not have the time to bake but enjoys the scents of fall, try using some other fragrances like Autumn Harvest, Dragon’s Blood, Florida Fall, Harvest Spice, Thanksgiving or Welcome Home. These fragrances combine all the aromas of fall-cinnamon, clove, earthy and woodsy scents, autumn leaves and flowers and warm vanilla. Bring all the amazing autumn scents into your home and relax in fall’s ambience.

There are also aromatherapy fragrances that remind one of this season of the year. Companionship, Energy Lift, Harvest and Positivity all contain some of the scents of autumn, particularly cinnamon. Plus you get the aromatherapy benefits of these blends as well: treating stress, respiratory infections (which start to become more prevalent in fall), digestive upsets, as well as promoting more positive energy. With more positive energy you feel better physically and emotionally; this is the time to take that quiet walk in the woods so you can really appreciate nature’s bounty. Also, your home smells good, which is what you set out to do in the first place!

I do hope I have inspired everyone to take advantage of all this beautiful season has to offer, whether by walking in the woods, baking their favorite fall recipes, or using the fragrances that remind them of these things. Autumn will be over all too soon and then come the dark, dreary days of winter; but that is for another time and another article. Happy Fall Everyone!
